Brief History

•  
• Luminous Technologies Ltd was formed in March 1999 to commercialise 12 years of research into photoluminescent materials.
• The company had a wide range of technologies that it intended to exploit commercially. The technologies were, and still are “leading edge” photoluminescent technology and the application range is extremely diverse.

• The plan was to take  the technologies to the market using basic products that could be made under licence with existing plant and for which there was  little capital outlay to clients.
•  
• A major breakthrough has been the development of an Optically Active Coatings System® for use in Marine Water Ballast Tanks.  The company won a Seatrade Award in 2001 for innovation in ship operations for this technology and also in 2001 SMART funding to develop the Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measuring capabilities of the system.

• The Optically Active Coating System  (OACS) has been patented  worldwide and is the first system to offer a visual means of inspecting coatings without the introduction of Volatile Organic Compounds  thus enabling the use of low and non-VOC coatings. This Process has been adopted by the US Navy under Mil Spec 23236C.
